Air Injection Pump: Testing and Inspection

REQUIREMENTS

- LED Test Light VAG 1527B or Equivalent.

- Test Connector kit VW 1594 or Equivalent.

- Refer to Tools and Equipment for test equipment specifications.

- Fuse for Air Injection pump "OK".

- Engine Oil Temperature between 15°C and 85°C.

TEST PROCEDURE

- Remove pressure hose from Air Injection Check Valve and route upwards.

- Start engine and let idle.

- After approx. 20. seconds the Air Injection pump must run for approx. 5 seconds.

- Air must exit from the pressure hose.

If the Air Injection pump does not run:

- Switch off ignition.

- Disconnect 2-pin harness connector from Air Injection pump motor.

- Connect VAG 1527B LED tester between terminals of harness connector using jumper wires from VW 1594 adaptor kit.

- Start engine and let idle.

- After approx. 20 seconds, the LED must light up for approx. 5 seconds.

If LED lights up:

- Replace Air Injection pump motor.

If LED does not light up:

- Refer to Air Injection Pump Relay Test Procedure.
