Volkswagen Single Piston Caliper

Always remove some brake fluid from master cylinder reservoir prior to installing new pads. When caliper piston is pushed back, fluid is forced out of caliper and into reservoir. After pads are installed and seated, refill reservoir to MAX mark.
1. Raise and support vehicle, then remove front wheels.
2. Disconnect retaining springs at top and bottom of caliper, then remove upper and lower guide pins.
3. Remove caliper, then the brake pads from carrier.
4. Push piston back into caliper housing.
5. Clean rust and scale from caliper, frame and slider surfaces, then lubricate slider surfaces and guide pins using a suitable brake grease.
6. Install brake pads, then the caliper.
7. Install guide pins, then tighten pins to specifications.
8. Install retaining springs, then depress brake pedal several times to position caliper piston and seat brake pads.
