Airbag On Board Diagnostic (OBD) system, checking with VAG 1551 Scan Tool (ST)

Cabriolet 1990-1993 m.y

Condition

The Airbag On Board Diagnostic (OBD) system on 1990-1993 m.y. Cabriolets can only be checked with the VAG 1551 Scan Tool (ST) using program card No. USA/3 or USA/3A.

Service

Do not use the new VAG 1551 program card No. USN4 for the 1990-1993 Cabriolet Airbag OBD system. This card was issued in January 1994 and due to a design change, does not allow access into the Airbag OBD system (address word 57).

Affix red "Attention" sticker (attached to this Technical Bulletin) on left front top edge of VAC 1551 ST -arrow-

Prior to checking the 1990-1993 Cabriolet Airbag OBD system, insert program card No. USA/3 or USA/3A as follows:

- disconnect power (B+) from VAG 1551 ST




- remove screw and cover from top of VAG 15 ST




- remove existing program card and install replacement as shown in illustration

- reinstall cover and screw
