Wait at least 20 seconds after switching off ignition before disconnecting battery. This will allow the platinum hot wire in air mass sensor to burn itself clean.
Ensure the ignition switch is in the Off position whenever disconnecting or connecting battery or any part of Motronic ignition wiring system to prevent damage to Motronic control unit.
1. Obtain radio security code, ensure ignition switch is in OFF position, then disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove cover plate in luggage compartment floor, then disconnect electrical connector and fuel lines from flange.
3. Unscrew flange nut using spanner tool No. 3217, or equivalent, then withdraw flange and O-ring from fuel tank.
4. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Ensure sender is not bent when installing.
b. Fuel pump assembly is correctly installed when sender float angle from direction of travel A, Fig. 9, is 5°.
c. Coat flange O-ring with fuel, then install flange with mark on flange aligned with mark on fuel tank, Fig. 10.
