Fuel Pump: Testing and Inspection
WARNING: Fire hazard. DO NOT smoke or have anything in area that can ignite fuel.Requirements
- voltage supply OK
- Remote control VAG 1348/3A connected
- Fuel pressure gauge VAG 1318 or equivalent.
Test Preparation
- Remove fuel filler cap
Fuel Gauge Connection:
- Disconnect fuel supply line 1 from fuel rail
- Connect pressure gauge VAG 1318 to fuel supply line 1 using adaptor VAG 1318/10
Testing
- Attach hose to pressure gauge adaptor VAG 1318/11 and hold in measuring glass
- Open pressure gauge shut-off valve
- Lever parallel with direction of flow (position A)
- While operating remote control VAG 1348/3A, slowly close shut-off valve until pressure gauge indicates a reading of 3 bar
- Stop moving shut-off valve
- Empty measuring glass
- Operate remote control switch for 30 seconds
Fuel Volume Graph:
- Compare amount of fuel delivered with values shown in chart
NOTE:
- Minimum delivery in cc's per 30 seconds
- Voltage at fuel pump with engine not running and fuel pump energized, must be approximately 1 Volts less than battery voltage
If minimum delivery is not obtained:
- Check for kinked or blocked fuel lines
- Check for plugged fuel filter, replace if necessary
- Check if fuel pump defective, replace if necessary
