Caliper Overhaul

Refer to Fig. 1, when overhauling caliper.
1. Secure caliper in a suitable soft-jawed vise, then remove piston from bore by turning counterclockwise with a 12 mm allen wrench on Corrado and Passat models or caliper tool 3131 or equivalent on models except Corrado and Passat.
2. Pry piston seals from groove, being careful not to score the piston bore.
3. Slide outer dust boot onto piston.
4. Lubricate piston and cylinder bore lightly with a suitable brake cylinder paste.
5. Insert inner lip of dust boot into groove of brake cylinder.
6. Press piston down, while turning clockwise. Turn piston in as far as possible. Outer lip of dust cap must slip into groove of piston.
