Inner Joint

Refer to Fig. 3 during replacement procedures.
1. Compress, then remove circlip.
2. Press inner constant velocity joint from shaft.
3. Pivot ball hub and cage from outer ring, then pull out.
4. Pull balls from cage, align two grooves, then remove ball hub from ball cage. Check housing, hub, cage and balls for pitting or scoring. Do not replace joint due to a polished appearance or because of visible ball track.
5. Insert ball hub along both grooves in ball cage. Installation position is not important.
6. Push balls into outer cage, then insert balls into outer ring. Chamfer on inside diameter of ball hub (splines) must point toward contact shoulder on axle shaft and toward large diameter of outer ring.
7. Insert hub with cage and balls into outer ring vertically. Wide ball groove in outer ring and narrow groove in hub are together on one side when hub is swung in to outer ring..
8. When pivoting ball hub with cage and balls in outer ring, hub should be pivoted out of cage until balls are spaced to fit groove.
9. Press cage firmly, until hub swings fully into position. The joint is correctly assembled when the ball hub can be moved in and out over the full range of axial movement by hand.
