Replacing Starter Bushing in Bellhousing

^ A binding starter is usually a sign of a bad starter bushing. A defective bushing that is not replaced when installing a new starter will cause the starter bearings to fail. The starter bushing is replaceable with the transmission installed on the vehicle and the starter removed.




^ The image shows the bushing being removed from the bellhousing using Volkswagen Special Tool Number - VW 228b.

^ To install a new starter bushing, drive the new bushing in until it is properly seated in the bellhousing.
