1. Shift into 1st gear, then push gearshift lever to left stop and release lever.
2. Lever must spring back 1/4 to 3/8 inch to right.
3. If not, move gearshift lever housing slightly in slots.
4. If this adjustment does not correct hard shifting problem, adjust gearshift lever as follows:

a. Place gearshift lever in neutral position, then remove lever knob and shift boot.
b. Loosen clamp nut, Fig. 10, and ensure that shift finger slides freely on shift rod.
c. Move gearshift lever to righthand side, between 3rd and 4th position. Gearshift lever remains perpendicular to ball housing.
d. With inner shift lever in neutral position and gearshift lever between 3rd and 4th gear, tighten clamp nut.
e. Check engagement of all gears, including reverse. Gearshift lever must move freely.
f. If necessary, adjust gearshift lever bearing housing by moving along slotted holes.
