When to Replace Components

Airbag system component, when to replace





^ airbag system must be replaced 10 years after date of manufacture. Replacement year and month are stamped in sun visor. If sun visor is replaced for any reason, information must be transferred to new sun visor
^ replace airbag components that have fallen or have been dropped more than 18 inches, even if they appear undamaged
^ replace parts of airbag system which are visibly damaged (dented, split, etc.) or have been exposed to grease or chemicals, or temperatures above 90~C (194~F)
^ if airbag system has been triggered in accident, replace all system components:
airbag unit, spiral spring assembly, control unit, and both deceleration sensors. If airbag system has undergone previous unauthorized repair, replace components involved
^ replace any components determined defective through VAG 1551 diagnostic procedures
