Steering Wheel Removing/Installing

Steering wheel equipped with airbag, removing/installing


CAUTION

Do not place any stickers or covering on a steering wheel equipped with an airbag.

Removing

^ disconnect battery ground cable


CAUTION

Wait 20 minutes while airbag system capacitor discharges, before removing airbag unit.





^ turn front wheels to straight-ahead position
^ remove airbag unit, as described previously in this Repair Group
^ loosen hex nut (arrow) and remove with spring washer
^ mark steering wheel in relation to steering column spindle
^ remove steering wheel


CAUTION

Do not turn or release spiral spring assembly when steering wheel is removed. If spring assembly is to be replaced, follow removal procedures provided in this Repair Group.

Installing

^ install steering wheel in straight ahead position
^ align index marks made during removal
^ spiral spring assembly must be seated

^ install hex nut and spring washer
^ tightening torque: 40 N-m (30 ft.lb.)

^ reinstall airbag unit, as described previously in this Repair Group
^ reconnect battery ground cable
