Removing/Installing Airbag Unit

Airbag unit, removing/installing

Removing
^ disconnect battery ground cable


CAUTION

Wait 20 minutes while airbag system capacitor discharges, before removing airbag unit.





^ remove Torx-head retaining screws on either side of steering wheel (arrow)
^ use standard Torx 30 screwdriver





^ detach airbag unit from steering wheel, carefully, and tilt downward
^ disconnect wiring connector from airbag unit (arrow)





CAUTION

Do not place removed airbag unit face down on vinyl horn pad side. Always rest unit on its metal housing

Installing

^ connect wiring connector to airbag unit
^ position airbag unit in steering wheel
^ tighten Torx-head screws
^ always replace with new Torx screws
^ tightening torque: 10 N-m (89 in.lb.)

^ reconnect battery ground cable
