Airbag Unit, Disposal

Airbag gas generators which are not ignited present great danger in the hands of inexperienced personnel. Therefore, units must be rendered unusable before they are scrapped.


WARNING

Improper activation of airbag units (using a cutting torch, etc.) may cause injury. Use only the approved ignition device.

Airbag gas generators must be ignited from outside vehicle, with ignition device. Airbag unit must remain installed during igniting and vehicle doors and roof must be kept closed.


CAUTION

The following procedure for igniting the airbag gas generator must be followed in the exact prescribed sequence.

^ remove knee bar panel
^ remove steering column lower trim





^ disconnect spiral spring wiring connector 1
^ connector 1 located below steering column switches

^ connect approved ignition device (switch) to airbag side of connector 1, and to an externally positioned 12 V battery


WARNING

All personnel must stand at least 10 meters (30 ft.) away from vehicle.

^ operate ignition device (switch) to activate airbag
