Canister Purge Control Valve: Testing and Inspection


The charcoal canister by-pass valve located on the R/H inner fender under the air cleaner assembly, controls when fuel vapors stored in the charcoal canister are purged into the intake manifold. This is done by vacuum control.

Charcoal Canister By-Pass Valve:





TESTING
1. Disconnect hoses and remove valve.
2. Connect a hand operated vacuum pump to the valves small diameter connector #1 and apply suction.
3. Connect an appropriate hose to valve connector #2 and apply suction.
Valve should be close.
4. Apply vacuum to small diameter connector with vacuum pump and apply suction to connector leading to canister.
Valve should be open.
5. If the valve fails any of the tests it should be replaced.
