SUBJECT: SERVICE ACTION CAMPAIGN QS 1990 MODEL VOLKSWAGEN JETTA DIESEL REPLACE ENGINE OIL LEVEL DIPSTICK
Dear Volkswagen Dealer:
This will inform you of a service action campaign involving a few early Wolfsburg production 1990 model Volkswagen Jetta Diesel vehicles. The vehicles affected are within the following vehicle identification number range:
WVW__01G_LWO29366 - WVW__01G_LW218307
Engine Code Range:
ME040217 - ME040577
Problem Description
Volkswagen has found that some of the affected vehicles may have been equipped with an incorrect engine oil level dipstick.
Remedial Action
The engine oil level dipstick must be replaced on each affected vehicle.
Customer Notification
Volkswagen of America, Inc. will notify known owners on or about March 16, 1990 per enclosed copy. In addition, authorizations and notifications will be prepared and mailed for every affected vehicle in dealer inventory. Each individual vehicle notification package will have enclosed a replacement dipstick and an "Owner Reply Card." Owners will be asked to replace the dipstick themselves or seek the help of an authorized Volkswagen dealer. The self-addressed "Owner Reply Card" is used to confirm that the service action has been completed.

Inventory Vehicles
Please ensure that each vehicle in your inventory, for which you have received a notification and a replacement dipstick, is corrected prior to sale.
Parts Supply
Not required - supplied for individual vehicles together with notification.
Work Procedure
See attachment to owner notification.
Vehicles Affected
Not all vehicles within the given vehicle identification number range are affected by this service action, only individually addressed vehicles are affected.
Dealer Obligation
Should a customer request your assistance, please replace the dipstick. Please provide a copy of this communication to every person in your dealership who has responsibility for campaigns.
