Cold Start Enrichment Function

1. Ensure frequency valve is operating properly. Connect engine (dwell) tester tool No. VW 1367 or equivalent, (connector 1, blue/white wire) using adapter tool No. VW 1367/5 or equivalent, then depress ``%'' button.
2. Disconnect coil wire from distributor cap and connect to ground using a jumper wire.
3. Disconnect thermo-switch electrical connectors and attach jumper wire No. VAG 1594 or equivalent, between terminals on connectors.
4. Crank starter motor and observe duty cycle. Correct reading is 63--67%.
5. If a duty cycle of 50% is observed, locate and eliminate open circuit for cold start enrichment relay.
6. If no open circuit is located, replace cold start enrichment relay.
