Shift Linkage: Adjustments
1. Place gearshift lever in neutral.
2. Loosen clamp nut and ensure shift finger slides freely on shift rod.
3. Remove shift boot and gearshift lever knob.
4. Loosen lever bearing plate attaching bolts, then align gearshift lever housing centering holes with gearshift lever bearing housing and tighten attaching bolts.
5. Install adjusting tool 3057 over gearshift lever. Position locating pin in front centering hole, then place gearshift lever in right cutout (5/R) and tighten lower knurled nut on tool.
6. Move gearshift lever and slide to right stop and tighten upper knurled nut on tool.
7. Place gearshift lever in left cutout (3/4), then align shift rod to shift finger with transaxle in neutral position.
8. Tighten clamp nut, then remove tool.
9. Check that, when gearshift lever is placed in first or fifth gear and lever is pressed against left or right stop and then released, the lever springs back approximately the same distance. If lever does not spring back equally from both stops, adjust gearshift lever housing in elongated slots.
10. Check that gears engage easily without jamming. Ensure reverse lockout works properly.
11. Install shift boot and gearshift lever knob.
