Some late 1988 and early 1989 model year vehicles experience premature front rotor wear.

Install brake pads with improved composition, which are currently available through Volkswagen Parts Division.

The improved composition brake pads have the same Part No. (ZBC 698 151 B). The only difference is in the manufacturing code which must be equal or greater than "1G9". Volkswagen Parts Division will only supply the improved parts and will remove all of the old stock.


Identification of the brake pads

Manufacturing Code: 1 G 9

Batch
Number Month Year

Batch Number: Must be a number (1-9 only)
Month: A=January, B= February ... etc.
Year: Last digit of the year manufactured (9 = 1989)

Some examples:

(1G9, 2H9, 1J9 - OK to use) (1H8, 218, 318 - Do not use)
