Power window inoperative
The power window could become inoperative if the winder mechanism locks up in the end position of travel (window closed).
A 4.0 mm longer window winder slide rail was introduced in production as of VIN 53 HK 011 916.
To repair a window regulator, use the following pads and procedure. Always modify the regulators in both doors to prevent a recurrence of the problem.
Parts required:
Reinforcement plate, Part No. 533 837 493 Screws, Part No. N 014 140.5 Lock washers, Part No. 011 666.3
Window regulator, repairing:
^ Remove door panel and vapor barrier
^ Operate window switch in downward position while an assistant pushes down on glass (motor will take over and complete lowering of window glass)
CAUTION
Do not tap motor. Damage to the motor magnets could result from such attempts to get the motor to run.
^ Move cam bracket a into middle position (shown)
^ Remove regulator mechanism
^ Bend sheet metal tongues b and c inward to approx. 45~ angle
^ Bend ends of slide rail d and e approx. 15~ inward toward cable blocks f and g
^ Lubricate slide rail lightly with multipurpose grease
^ Install regulator mechanism into door
^ Install reinforcement plate to cam bracket a and window glass bracket
