Axle Beam: Service and Repair

1. Raise and support rear of vehicle.
2. Disconnect parking brake cable from pull rod, Fig. 5.
3. Disconnect and plug brake hoses. If mounting brackets are to remain on body, remove axle retaining bolts. When installing bolts, ensure axle is horizontal and level prior to tightening bolts.
4. Disconnect brake equalizer, then remove mounting bracket nuts, leaving one nut installed on each side.
5. Loosen exhaust pipe attaching rings, then lower vehicle while supporting axle with a suitable jack.
6. Disconnect strut upper mounts, then remove remaining nut from both mount brackets.
7. Raise rear of vehicle slowly. Lift parking brake cable over exhaust pipe and slide axle assembly from under vehicle.
8. Reverse procedure to install. Install mount brackets onto axle at an approximate angle of 15-19°.
