Fuel Pump: Service and Repair
NOTE: For CIS and CIS-E systems, the fuel pump check valve is available separately.1. Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable from the battery.
2. Working beneath the car, disconnect the wiring harness connections from the fuel pump.
3. Mark the wires to ensure correct installation.
4. Thoroughly clean the fuel line unions.
5. Clamp off the supply line from the fuel reservoir.
6. Clamp off the output line leading to the fuel accumulator (CIS/CIS-E), or forward to the fuel filter (Digifant).
7. Place a container beneath the fuel pump to catch fuel.
8. Disconnect the fuel lines from the fuel pump.
WARNING
- Fuel will be discharged. Do not smoke or work near heaters or other fire hazards.
- Keep a fire extinguisher on hand.
9. Remove the fuel pump with the sound absorber from the mounting brackets.
10. Separate the fuel pump from the sound absorber and insert new fuel pump.
11. Mount the fuel pump and the sound absorber in the brackets.
12. Connect the fuel lines and the wiring connections.
NOTE: Use new sealing washers and hose clamps.
13. Torque the fuel line union cap nut to 20 Nm (15 ft lb).
14. Connect the battery negative (-) cable.
15. Start the engine and check for leaks.
