Owner Letter Information

SUBJECT: RECALL CAMPAIGN NQ

Dear Volkswagen Owner:

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirement of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Volkswagen has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in some 1985 model Volkswagen Scirocco and Cabriolet vehicles. Our records show that you are the owner of one of these vehicles.

Your car is equipped with a fuel system which uses two pumps for delivery of fuel from the tank to the engine. We have found that the fuel pump located inside the tank could seize during high ambient temperatures or air bubbles could be trapped in the fuel pump's filter. If this condition occurs, the fuel supply to the engine will be interrupted and the car will stall. A vehicle stalling in traffic may present a safety hazard, and if stalling occurs without warning, could result in accident or injury.

We urge you to immediately arrange for an appointment with your authorized Volkswagen dealer. Your dealer will install a modified fuel transfer pump or a redesigned fuel filter or both, if required. In addition, a fuel hose connected to the pump will be replaced, where necessary. We estimate that it will take approximately one hour to perform the work. All work will, of course, be free of charge to you. An initial supply of replacement parts will be available at your dealer by October 28, 1985.

If your Volkswagen dealer fails or is unable to remedy the defect free of charge within a reasonable time, you may call or write the nearest Customer Assistance Office listed in the enclosure. If you still cannot obtain satisfaction, please call or write to:
