SUBJECT: RECALL CAMPAIGN NO - DEFECTIVE FUEL PUMP

- ENGINE STALL PROBLEM

Dear Volkswagen Owner:

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirement of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Volkswagen has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in some 1985 model Volkswagen Scirocco and Cabriolet vehicles. Our records show that you are the owner of one of these vehicles.

Your car is equipped with a fuel system which uses two pumps for delivery of fuel from the tank to the engine. We have found that the fuel pump located inside the tank could sieze during high ambient temperatures or air bubbles could be trapped in the fuel pump's filter. If this condition occurs, the fuel supply to the engine will be interrupted and the car will stall. A vehicle stalling in traffic may present a safety hazard, and if stalling occurs without warning, could result in accident or injury.

We urge you to immediately arrange for an appointment with your authorized Volkswagen dealer. Your dealer will install a modified fuel transfer pump or a redesigned fuel filter, or both, if required. In addition, a fuel hose connected to the pump will be replaced, where necessary. We estimate it will take approximately one hour to perform the work. All work will, of course, be free of charge to you. An initial supply of replacement parts will be available at your dealer by October 28, 1985.

If your Volkswagen dealer fails or is unable to remedy the defect free of charge within a reasonable time, you may call or write to:

Volkswagen Interamericana, S.A. P.O. Box 523985 Miami, Florida 33152

Telephone: (305) 592-4980

We regret any inconvenience this matter may cause; however, we are confident that you would want to have the condition corrected without delay.

Sincerely, VOLKSWAGEN INTERAMERICANA, S.A.
SUBJECT: RECALL CAMPAIGN NQ

Please make sure that your personnel is familiar with these revised instructions. This new procedure is effective immediately. Discard the previously issued circular.

Thank you for your concern.
SUBJECT: PRE-DELIVERY/RECALL CAMPAIGN

1985 MODEL VOLKSWAGEN SCIROCCO

AND CABRIOLET VEHICLES REPLACEMENT OF FUEL TRANSFER PUMP

VOLKSWAGEN RECALL CODE NO

Dear Dealer:

This is to inform you of the initiation of a safety campaign involving 1985 model Volkswagen Scirocco and Cabriolet vehicles. The affected vehicles are within the following vehicle identification number ranges:

WVWCA015-FK000001 - WVWCA015-FK024436 WVWCA053-FK000001 - WVWCA053-FK033526

It is possible that the fuel transfer (feeder) pump located in the tank could seize during high ambient temperatures or air bubbles could become trapped in the fuel filter. To prevent this from happening, a modified fuel pump, as well as a re-designed fuel pump filter is to be installed. In addition, the fuel hose identified in recall campaign NG and not yet replaced must be replaced on all vehicles up to vehicle identification numbers WVWCA015-FK004559 and WVWCA053-FK007852.
