Key Points

Design changes to the KE fuel injector make it necessary to modify the test equipment US 4480 and VW 1348

FIGURE 2:

FIGURE 3:

Newer styled air shrouded fuel injectors (KE-Jetronic) incorporate a fluted air directional shield attached to the end of the injector (Fig. 1). The diameter of the shield and O-ring are too large to fit through the insert openings in the test equipment US 4480 (Fig. 2) and VW 1348 (Fig. 3).

Note:

VW 1348 is minimum requirement for VW and Audi dealerships. The US 4480 is an acceptable equivalent and your dealership may be equipped with either.
Special Tool US 4480 and VW 1348 can be modified to accommodate fuel injectors by following the instructions outlined on side two.
The openings in the fuel performance analyzers must be enlarged by drilling (in two steps) so that air shrouded injectors with two rubber O-ring seals will fit.

1st step: 11 mm drill through

2nd step: 14 mm drill through

After drilling, thoroughly clean tester to ensure all drillings are removed.

Note:

- lubricate drill bit with grease.

- drill speed: less than 500 RPM. When modifying VW 1348, hand drilling with a 14 mm "T-Wrench" is suggested.

- Inserts (Fig. 4), if needed, for US 4480 can be ordered from the Parts Department No. 063 133 555 and must be modified.
