Note
Transfer pump and fuel gauge sending unit are a matched design.. If component replacement is necessary, use only components of same design or replace transfer and sending unit as a complete set.
VDO pump & sender assembly.
Note
VDO sender type (vertically aligned potentiometer), must be installed with the transfer pump and screen filter shown.
Assembly sequence
- push connector hose (3) as far as possible onto connector piece of transfer pump and fasten with hose clamp
- push sender nipple far enough into connector pipe (3) such that dimension a = 1 mm (6.9 +/- 0.04 in.)
- fasten hose with second hose clamp
- check that connecting hose clamps do not touch transfer pump electrical terminals
- check that sending unit float has free movement and sufficient clearance to transfer pump
- if filter sack (5) is present on transfer pump, pry off carefully with screwdriver and discard
- push screen filter (4) onto transfer pump (2) such that prongs on screen filter engage ribs on pump housing
Fuel reservoir, installing
Note
Following procedure must be closely observed to provide sufficient clearance between fuel and brake system lines.
- mount fuel reservoir 1 to fuel tank seam 5, using mounting clips 2 and 3
- check that fuel line 4 DOES NOT touch brake lines
- install fuel lines to reservoir
