Key Points Modification of adapter US 1074/4A required to fit 1985 Golf, GTI and Jetta
Due to a power steering pump change the adapter US 1074/4A, which is part of US 1074 and US 1074B Power Steering Pressure Gauge kits will not fit correctly and must be modified.
All future orders of US 1074/4A will be shipped the modified adapter. The ordering number, tool number and the 1985 price will not be changed. Once the adapter is modified it will fit all model years up to 1985.

Please use the following instructions to modify your adapter:
INSTRUCTIONS FOR MODIFYING US 1074/4A
1. Obtain from your power steering pressure kit US 1074 or US 1074B, the adapter fitting US 1074/4A shown below.
2. Using machinist bluing or equivalent, coat the long solid end of US 1074/4A with bluing. Scribe a line 3 mm from the end of the adapter fitting.
3. Remove 3 mm +/- 0.1 mm from the end of US 1074/4A.
4. Dress and chamfer the end of the fitting to remove burrs and sharp corners.
5. Thoroughly wash the modified fitting in mineral spirits or equivalent to remove any trace of loose contaminents.
