Oil Pressure Warning Lamp/Indicator: Testing and Inspection

NOTE: The most likely causes of a dynamic oil pressure warning system malfunction are actual low oil pressure, or problems with the oil pressure switches. Ensure proper oil level and pressure prior to dynamic oil pressure warning system testing.

To test the 4.4 PSI switch

1. Disconnect and ground the blue/black wire.

2. Turn the ignition switch to the on position. The indicator should flash, if the indicator does not flash, check the indicator circuit as required.

3. If the indicator flashes only when tested, replace oil pressure switch.

4. If the indicator flashes with the engine running, and the oil pressure is 4.4 PSI or greater, disconnect the blue/black wire with engine running.

5. If the indicator did not go out in step #4, the circuit is shorted to ground between the wire and the indicator.

6. If the indicator did go out in step #4, the oil pressure switch is stuck in the closed position and should be replaced.

To test the 26.4 PSI switch

1. After completing oil pressure test start engine. Increase engine speed to slightly more than 2000 RPM.

2. Disconnect the yellow wire from the oil pressure switch. The indicator should flash and the buzzer should sound.

3. Connect the yellow wire to ground, the warning should stop.

4. If the warning did not stop in step #3, replace the oil pressure switch.
