Service

Cd changer, preparing vehicle for installation

- Remove front close-out panel from front passenger seat.

- Detach wiring harness from close-out panel (if necessary). Discard panel (will not be reused).

- Remove plastic close-out cover below instrument panel (passenger side).

- Position front passenger seat to the forward most position (for MultiVan remove rearward facing seat for accessibility).

- Loosen two inner seat fastening bolts -A-.

- Completely remove two outer seat fastening bolts -B-. For MultiVan also remove bolt at rear of seat (not shown).

CD changer, setting Vertical/Horizontal switch

- Change the V/H (vertical/horizontal) switches on both sides of CD changer to "H" horizontal position.

- Attach side brackets to CD changer using 5 mm x 8 mm flat head screws (included in kit).

- Illustration shows seat removed (not required).

- Lift right side of passenger seat and route CD changer wiring harness under carpet to step cover (allow enough slack in harness for easy installation to CD changer).

- Remove philips head screw from front of step cover (arrow).

- Route harness under step cover (near the lip) to the A-pillar.

- Route harness beneath carpet, up to the A-pillar.

- Reinstall step cover screw.

- Remove radio (see VESIS Group 91, Radio, removing and Installing). Do not disconnect connectors.

- Route harness along passenger side of instrument panel through to radio opening as shown.

- Connect harness to back of radio.

- For Premium radios: remove single terminal on CD harness (brown wire).

- Install Part No: 000 979 137 (eyelet connector) from VAS 1978 Wiring Harness Repair Kit to brown wire using a red wire splice.

- Remove snubber from threaded stud on back of radio.

- Install eyelet onto threaded stud with 5 mm nut Part No: N904 55301 (arrow) (included in kit).

- Remove excess material from snubber to fit over nut (must fit flush with back of radio).

- Reinstall radio (see VESIS Group 91, Radio, removing and installing).

CD changer brackets, installing below seat frame

- Position CD changer floor mounting brackets (arrow) Part No: ZVW 832 002 lengthwise between seat frame and floor.

^ Brackets must also be 2 inches from front edge of seat frame.

^ Brackets must be clamped between seat frame and carpet when seat fasteners are tightened.

WARNING!
DO NOT drill holes in floor to mount CD changer.

CD changer must be installed using supplied brackets and clamped between the seat frame and the floor.

- Loosely install two outer seat mounting bolts (for MultiVan, reinstall bolt at rear of seat).

- Position CD changer (with side brackets) onto brackets and loosely install using Part No: N015 082 5 (6 mm nuts).

With CD changer loosely installed:

- Tighten all seat mounting bolts to hold CD changer in place (see VESIS repair group 72, Front seat and frame, removing, for correct torque specifications).

- Tighten 6 mm nuts to fasten CD changer to floor mounting brackets.

- Connect CD changer to harness (position excess harness on side of CD changer).

Radio, coding to accept CD changer

Note:
Radio will control CD changer regardless, however, for proper operation and diagnostics, code the radio for CD support.

- Connect the VAS 5051 Diagnostic tool.

- Code radio to accept CD changer by changing last digit in code from 0 to 2 (see VESIS Group 01 Radio, On Board Diagnostic (OBD) 08.98 > for coding procedure).

- Test CD changer operation with a CD. With CD changer operational:

- Finish installation by bundling any excess wiring harness behind carpet as shown.

- Ensure that wiring harness will not rattle by fastening with tape where necessary.

- Reinstall close-out cover below instrument panel (passenger side).

- For MultiVan, reinstall rearward facing seat.
