Clockspring Assembly / Spiral Cable: Service and Repair

Airbag Spiral Spring - F138 -, Removing/installing

Requirements
- Driver's side airbag unit removed --> 08.98.
- Driver's side airbag unit removed --> 09.98.
- Steering wheel removed --> 08.98.
- Steering wheel removed 09.98 -->.

- Separate single connector for horn.







- Remove Phillips screws - 1 - and remove airbag spiral spring - 2 - from steering wheel.

NOTE:
- The steering must be in the center position (wheels straight-ahead) when the airbag spiral spring - F138 - is removed and installed.
- Replacement airbag spiral springs are secured in the center position with a cable tie.

Checking center position
- Turn airbag spiral spring (clockwise) onto stop and then turn back 3.5 turns.
