Engine, attaching to engine stand

To perform engine work, mount engine to VW313 holding fixture of assembly stand using VW 540 holding fixture. When the exhaust manifold is removed from cylinder head, 3269 engine support can be used. Otherwise, use VW540/1B spacers.

- VAG1202A Engine Hoist
- 3033 sling attachment with 3180 retainer and 10-222A12 additional hook

Procedure

- Disconnect transmission.
- After separating engine from transmission, secure the torque converter to prevent it from falling out.
If the exhaust manifold is installed:





- Bolt engine/transmission VW 540 holding fixture to cylinder block with three pieces from VW540/1 B holding fixture and VW540/1 B spacers. Use a standard bolt M12 x 160 with toughness 8.8. for securing at right bottom (arrow).
If the exhaust manifold is removed:
- Unbolt 3269 engine support at cylinder head.





- Engage 3033 engine sling as follows and lift out engine using VAG1202A workshop crane from VAG1383A engine/transmission jack.
- Harmonic balancer side: Position 5
- Flywheel side: Position 9
- Insert engine into VW313 holding fixture using VAG1202A workshop crane.
