Rear Engine Plate: Service and Repair

Sealing flanges and drive plate, removing and installing

Notes:

- For performing repair work, secure engine to VW313 assembly stand using 3269 or VW540 holding fixture together with VW54011B auxiliary pieces.
- Sealing flange (item 7) can be removed and installed with the cylinder head installed.






1. Bolt: Tighten to 100 Nm 1/4 turn (90 °)
- Always replace Harmonic balancer bolt
- Use 3406 or T1 0069 retainer for loosening and tightening,
- Sealing ring for crankshaft harmonic balancer side, replacing. Service and Repair
- tighten using VAG 1601 torque wrench
2. Harmonic balancer
- Ribbed belt, removing and installing. Service and Repair
3. Bolt: Tighten to 10 Nm
4. Seal
- Sealing ring as PTFE version:
- Identification: without internal hose spring
- Do not additionally oil or grease sealing lip of oil seal
- Before installing, remove oil residue at crankshaft pin using a clean rag.
- Replace. Service and Repair
5. Sealing flange
- Coat sealing surfaces with sealant AMV 1 88 001 02
6. Cylinder block
- Crankshaft, removing and installing. Service and Repair
- Pistons and connecting rods, disassembling and assembling. Service and Repair
7. Sealing flange
- Coat sealing surfaces with sealant AMV 188 001 02
8. Seal
- Sealing ring as PTFE version:
- Identification: without internal hose spring
- Do not additionally oil or grease sealing lip of oil seal
- Before installing, remove oil residue at crankshaft pin using a clean rag.
- Remove using 2086 lever
- Install seal press sleeve 2003/2A for removing.
- Pull in to stop using 2003/1 seal press sleeve.
9. Shim
- Determining thickness. Service and Repair
10. Drive plate
- Drive plate, removing and installing, refer to Transmission and Drivetrain.
11. Washer
- Note installed position
12. Bolt: Tighten to 60 Nm + 1/4 turn (90 °)
- Always replace Drive plate bolts
13. Bolt: Tighten to 25 Nm
14. Bracket
- for coolant hose
