Bosch 5.3 ABS System


NOTE:
^ Before repairing the anti-locking system, determine the cause of the malfunction using On Board Diagnostic (OBD). Testing and Inspection
^ Before working on the ABS, ABS/EDL system, disconnect the battery ground strap. On vehicles with a coded radio, obtain the radio coding.
^ Before carrying out welding work with an electric welding unit:
- Disconnect negative (-) terminal from battery and cover battery post.
- Connect ground cable of welding appliance directly to part being welded Make sure that no insulated parts are present between ground connection and weld location.
- Do not touch electronic control modules and wiring with ground connector or welding electrode
^ When working with brake fluid, observe the valid, relevant safety precautions and notes.
^ After work for which the brake system had to be opened bleed the brake system with brake filling and bleeding unit, tool No. VAG 1238/1, US 1116, or equivalent. Service and Repair
^ During the final road test, perform a controlled brake test at least once (pulsations must be felt at the brake pedal).
^ Absolute cleanliness is required when working on the anti-locking brake system, do not use any products which contain oils, greases etc.
^ Thoroughly clean all connections and the adjacent areas before loosening, do not use aggressive cleaning agents such as brake cleaner gasoline or thinners.
^ Place removed parts on a clean surface and cover.
^ Carefully cover or seal open components if repairs cannot be accomplished immediately.
Use sealing plugs in repair kit, Part No. 1 HO 693 311 A or equivalent.
^ Do not use fluffy cloths (that may have lint).
^ Only remove replacement parts from packaging immediately prior to installation.
^ Only use genuine packed parts.
^ When the system is open do not work with compressed air and do not move the vehicle.
^ Ensure that no brake fluid enters wiring harness connectors.
^ During painting operations, the electronic control module can be exposed to a max. temperature of 95°C (203°F) for only a short period, and to a maximum of 85°C (185°F) for longer periods (approx. 2 hours).
