Engine, installing

Installation is reverse of removal, noting the following:

Procedure

- Make sure centering sleeves for engine to transmission are correctly installed in cylinder block. Install or replace if necessary.
- When installing engine/transmission subframe, check for clearance to subframe mount.
- Thread in all bolts and nuts of subframe mount by hand approximately 5 to 6 rotations.





- When installing the right subframe mount (engine mount), make sure the recess in engine bracket engages into the pin of the hydra mount (arrow).
- Align subframe mount with shaking motions free of stress.
- Install pendulum support

Vehicles with A/C system

- Install A/C compressor
- Attach selector lever cable to transmission, adjust if necessary

Continuation for all vehicles

- Install drive axles with flange shaft
- Install vane pump for power steering with bracket
- Install front exhaust pipe.
- Install radiator and fan.
- For harness connectors and routing, refer to wiring.
- Perform road test and check DTC memory
- Adapt control module for engine electronics to throttle valve control module
- Perform work procedure "Procedure to follow after interruption of voltage supply"
- Read readiness code
- If DTC memory was erased or the Engine Control Module (ECM) was disconnected from the continuous B+ supply, the readiness code must be re-generated
- Check headlight adjustment, correct if necessary:

WARNING:

Observe the following for all installations, especially in engine compartment due to lack of room.

- Route lines of all types (e.g. far fuel, hydraulic, EVAP canister system, coolant and refrigerant, brake fluid, Vacuum) and electrical wiring so that the original path is followed.

- Watch for sufficient clearance to all moving or hot components.

Tightening torques

Engine

Engine to transmission

M8 = 25 Nm
M10 = 60 Nm
M12 = 80 Nm

Pendulum support to transmission tighten to 80 Nm + 1/4 rotation (90 °) additionally

Pendulum support to subframe tighten to 200 Nm

Starter to transmission and engine tighten to 45 Nm

Front exhaust pipe to exhaust manifold tighten 40 Nm

Front exhaust pipe to Three Way Catalytic Converter (TWC) tighten to 25 Nm

Driveshaft to wheel hub tighten to 150 Nm + 1/4 rotation (90 °) additionally

Drive axles to drive flanges tighten to 80 Nm

Subframe mount

(Bolts oiled)

Right subframe mount:






A tighten to 55 Nm
B tighten to 50 Nm + 1/4 rotation (90 °) additionally
C tighten to 10 Nm


Left subframe mount:






A tighten to 55 Nm
B tighten to 50 Nm + 1/4 rotation (90 °) additionally
C tighten to 50 Nm + 1/4 rotation (90 °) additionally
D tighten to 30 Nm

Pendulum supports






1. Pendulum support to subframe (1) tighten to 200 Nm
2. Pendulum support to transmission (1) tighten to 80 Nm + 90 ° (1/4 turn)
(1) Replace bolts.
