Crankshaft: Service and Repair
Component Notes And Information
NOTE:
- During service procedures, refer to the illustration above and the information below.
^ When stripping and assembling the engine, mount it on an engine stand using 3269 engine bracket.
1 Bearing cap
- Bearing cap 1: vibration damper end
- Bearing cap 5: with recesses for thrust washers
- Bearing shell retaining lugs: cylinder block/Bearing cap must be on the same side
2 Bolt
- Always replace
- Tighten to: 30 Nm (22 ft lb) + 1/2 turn (180°) further
Two 90° turns to achieve the extra 1/2 turn is permissible
3 Bearing shells 1 to 7
- For Bearing cap without oil groove
- For cylinder block with oil groove
- Do not interchange used Bearing shells (mark shells to ensure that they are reinstalled in original location)
4 Thrust washer
- For Bearing cap 5
- Note installed position
5 Crankshaft
- Axial clearance
New: 0.07 to 0.23 mm
Wear limit: 0.30 mm
- Check radial clearance with Plastigage
New: 0.02 to 0.06 mm
Wear limit: 0.10 mm
- Do not rotate crankshaft while checking radial clearance
- Crankshaft dimensions:
Main journal: 59.958 to 59.978 mm
Crankshaft journal: 53.958 to 53.978 mm
- Reworking is not permitted!
6 Sensor wheel
- For Engine Speed sensor -G28-
- Always replace
7 Bolt
- Tighten to: 10 Nm (7 ft lb) + 1/4 turn (90°) further
- Always replace
8 Thrust washer
- For engine block, Bearing 5 Note installed position
9 Oil spray jet
- For crankshaft Bearings 2 to 7
- For piston cooling
- Opening pressure: 2.0 bar
