Steering Pad Switch Circuit
HEATING / AIR CONDITIONING: AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM: Steering Pad Switch Circuit
- Steering Pad Switch Circuit
DESCRIPTION
The temperature can be adjusted and the air inlet can be switched between fresh air mode and recirculated mode by operating switches on the steering pad switch assembly. The center cluster module circuit (air conditioning control assembly) receives operation signals from the steering pad switch assembly via the spiral with sensor cable sub-assembly and sends temperature setting and air inlet change signals to the air conditioning amplifier assembly.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE
PROCEDURE
1. CHECK AIR CONDITIONING CONTROL ASSEMBLY
(a) Disconnect the L52 spiral with sensor cable sub-assembly connector.
(b) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Voltage:
Text in Illustration
NG -- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (CENTER CLUSTER MODULE CIRCUIT - SPIRAL WITH SENSOR CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY)
OK -- Continue to next step.
2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SPIRAL WITH SENSOR CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY - BODY GROUND)
(a) Disconnect the L38*1, L35*2 navigation receiver assembly connector or radio and display receiver assembly connector.
(b) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Resistance:
*1: w/ Navigation Receiver Assembly
*2: w/o Radio and Receiver Assembly
NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- Continue to next step.
3. CHECK SPIRAL WITH SENSOR CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY
(a) Disconnect the steering pad switch assembly and spiral with sensor cable sub-assembly connectors.
(b) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Resistance:
(c) After setting the spiral with sensor cable sub-assembly to the center position, rotate the spiral with sensor cable sub-assembly 2.5 times clockwise. Then while rotating the spiral with sensor cable sub-assembly 5 times counterclockwise, measure the resistance as shown in the table below.
Standard Resistance:
NOTICE:
* The spiral with sensor cable sub-assembly is an important part of the SRS airbag system. Incorrect removal or installation of the spiral with sensor cable sub-assembly may prevent the airbag from deploying. Refer to the pages shown in the brackets.
* As the spiral with sensor cable sub-assembly may break, do not rotate the spiral with sensor cable sub-assembly more than the specified amount.
HINT
* Removal Removal
* Installation Installation

NG -- REPLACE SPIRAL WITH SENSOR CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY Removal
OK -- Continue to next step.
4. CHECK STEERING PAD SWITCH ASSEMBLY
(a) Remove the steering pad switch assembly.
(b) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Text in Illustration
Standard Resistance:
NG -- REPLACE STEERING PAD SWITCH ASSEMBLY Removal
OK -- Continue to next step.
5. REPLACE AIR CONDITIONING CONTROL ASSEMBLY
(a) Replace the air conditioning control assembly with a new or a known good one Removal.
(b) Check that the steering pad switch assembly operation returns to normal.
Result:
B -- REPLACE NAVIGATION RECEIVER ASSEMBLY Removal
C -- REPLACE RADIO AND DISPLAY RECEIVER ASSEMBLY Removal
A -- END (AIR CONDITIONING CONTROL ASSEMBLY WAS DEFECTIVE)
6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (CENTER CLUSTER MODULE CIRCUIT - SPIRAL WITH SENSOR CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY)
(a) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Resistance:
NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- REPLACE CENTER CLUSTER MODULE CIRCUIT Disassembly
