U660E Automatic Transaxle
U660E AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION / TRANSAXLE: AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE SYSTEM: P0617: Starter Relay Circuit High
P0617 - Starter Relay Circuit High
DESCRIPTION
While the engine is being cranked, battery voltage is applied to terminal STA of the TCM.
If the TCM detects the Starter Control (STA) signal while the vehicle is being driven, it determines that there is a malfunction in the STA circuit. The TCM then illuminates the MIL and sets the DTC.
This monitor runs when the vehicle is driven at 20 km/h (12.43 mph) for over 20 seconds.

NOTICE:
Perform the universal trip to clear permanent DTCs Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.
HINT
* The following troubleshooting flowchart is based on the premise that the engine is cranked normally. If the engine does not crank, proceed to the problem symptoms table Symptom Related Diagnostic Procedures.
* Read freeze frame data using the Techstream. The TCM records vehicle and driving condition information as freeze frame data the moment a DTC is stored. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can be helpful in determining whether the vehicle was running or stopped, whether the engine was warmed up or not, whether the air-fuel ratio was lean or rich, as well as other data recorded at the time of a malfunction Freeze Frame Data.
PROCEDURE
1. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (STARTER SIGNAL)
(a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
(b) Turn the engine switch on (IG).
(c) Turn the Techstream on.
(d) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / ECT / Data List.
(e) Crank the engine.
(f) Read the value displayed on the Techstream.
OK:
NG -- INSPECT PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY
OK -- CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS Electronic Circuit Inspection Procedure
2. INSPECT PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY
(a) Disconnect the park/neutral position switch connector.
(b) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below when the shift lever is moved to each position.
Standard Resistance:
Text in Illustration
NG -- REPLACE PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY Components
OK -- Continue to next step.
3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (TCM - PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH)
(a) Disconnect the TCM connector.
(b) Remove the ST relay from the engine room relay block and junction block assembly.
(c) Disconnect the park/neutral position switch connector.
(d) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Voltage:
Text in Illustration
NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- Continue to next step.
4. CHECK WHETHER DTC OUTPUT RECURS
(a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
(b) Turn the engine switch on (IG).
(c) Turn the Techstream on.
(d) Clear the DTCs Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.
(e) Drive the vehicle in accordance with the driving pattern described in the Confirmation Driving Pattern.
(f) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / ECT/ Trouble Codes.
(g) Read the DTCs.
Result:
NG -- REPLACE TCM Components
OK -- END
