Installation





AXLE AND DIFFERENTIAL: FRONT AXLE HUB: INSTALLATION

HINT
* Use the same procedure for the RH side and LH side.
* The procedure listed below is for the LH side.

1. INSTALL FRONT AXLE HUB BEARING

(a) Using SST and a press, install a new front axle hub bearing to the steering knuckle.

2. INSTALL FRONT DISC BRAKE DUST COVER

(a) Install the front disc brake dust cover to the steering knuckle with the 4 bolts.

Torque : 8.3 Nm (85 kgf-cm, 73 in-lbf)

3. INSTALL FRONT AXLE HUB SUB-ASSEMBLY

(a) Using SST and a press, install the front axle hub sub-assembly to the steering knuckle.

4. INSTALL FRONT AXLE HUB HOLE SNAP RING

(a) Using snap ring pliers, install a new front axle hub hole snap ring.

5. INSTALL FRONT NO. 1 WHEEL BEARING DUST DEFLECTOR

(a) Set a new front No. 1 wheel bearing dust deflector to the steering knuckle while aligning the cutout for the speed sensor in the front No. 1 wheel bearing dust deflector with the hole of the steering knuckle.

(b) Using SST and a hammer, install the front No. 1 wheel bearing dust deflector.

(c) Apply mineral oil base grease to the areas indicated by the arrows in the illustration on the front drive shaft assembly contact surface of the front axle hub bearing.

HINT
Apply 0.1 to 0.3 g (0.00353 to 0.0106 oz.) of mineral oil base grease to each area.

6. INSTALL FRONT AXLE ASSEMBLY

(a) Install the front axle assembly to the front shock absorber with the 2 bolts and 2 nuts.

Torque : 290 Nm (2957 kgf-cm, 214 ft-lbf)

NOTICE:
When installing the nuts, keep the bolts from rotating.

7. INSTALL FRONT DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY

(a) Align the matchmarks and install the front drive shaft assembly to the front axle hub sub-assembly.

NOTICE:
Be careful not to damage the drive shaft boot or speed sensor rotor.

8. CONNECT FRONT LOWER NO. 1 SUSPENSION ARM SUB-ASSEMBLY

(a) Connect the front lower No. 1 suspension arm sub-assembly to the front lower ball joint assembly with the bolt and 2 nuts.

Type A Nut and Bolt - Torque : 75 Nm (765 kgf-cm, 55 ft-lbf)

Type B Nut and Bolt - Torque : 92 Nm (938 kgf-cm, 68 ft-lbf)

NOTICE:
* The tightening torque for the bolt differs depending on the type of nut.
* Make sure to tighten the bolt to the same torque as the nuts.

9. CONNECT TIE ROD ASSEMBLY Installation

11. INSTALL FRONT DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY Replacement

12. INSTALL FRONT AXLE SHAFT NUT

(a) Clean the threaded parts on the front drive shaft assembly and a new front axle shaft nut using a non-residue solvent.

NOTICE:
* Be sure to perform this work even, when using a new front drive shaft assembly.
* Keep the threaded parts free of oil and foreign matter.

(b) Using a socket wrench (30 mm), install the front axle hub shaft nut.

Torque : 294 Nm (2998 kgf-cm, 217 ft-lbf)

NOTICE:
Stake the nut after inspecting for looseness and runout in the following steps.

HINT
Keep depressing the brake pedal to prevent the front drive shaft from rotating.

13. SEPARATE FRONT DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY Replacement

14. REMOVE FRONT DISC Removal

15. INSPECT FRONT AXLE HUB BEARING LOOSENESS Front Axle Hub

16. INSPECT FRONT AXLE HUB RUNOUT Front Axle Hub

17. INSTALL FRONT DISC Installation

18. INSTALL FRONT DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY Replacement

19. INSTALL FRONT SPEED SENSOR

(a) Install the front speed sensor and front flexible hose to the front shock absorber with the bolt and clamp.

Torque : 19 Nm (192 kgf-cm, 14 ft-lbf)

NOTICE:
Do not twist the front speed sensor when installing it.

HINT
Install the speed sensor harness bracket first and then the front flexible hose.

(b) Install the front speed sensor to the steering knuckle with the bolt.

Torque : 8.5 Nm (87 kgf-cm, 75 in-lbf)

NOTICE:
Do not twist the front speed sensor when installing it.

20. STAKE FRONT AXLE SHAFT NUT

(a) Using a chisel and a hammer, stake the front axle shaft nut.





21. INSTALL FRONT WHEEL

Torque : 103 Nm (1049 kgf-cm, 76 ft-lbf)

22. INSPECT AND ADJUST FRONT WHEEL ALIGNMENT

23. CHECK FOR SPEED SENSOR SIGNAL

Test Mode Procedure
