Introduction
Some customers may complain that the charging system warning light is illuminated on the instrument cluster of the vehicle. The charging system warning light may illuminate due to a corroded connection on the voltage regulator of the alternator. Follow the inspection and repair procedure below to correct this condition.

^ 2007 model year Yaris vehicles produced BEFORE the Production Change Effective VINs shown below.

This repair is covered under the Toyota Comprehensive Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.
* Warranty application is limited to correction of a problem based upon a customer's specific complaint.

Inspection & Repair Procedure
1. Perform the on-vehicle charging system inspection found on the Technical Information System (TIS), 2007 model year Yaris Repair Manual:
Power Source/Network - Battery/Charging - "1NZ-FE Charging: Charging System: On - Vehicle Inspection".
^ If alternator voltage output is WITHIN the specified standard range of 13.2 - 14.8 V, continue on to the next step in the on-vehicle inspection and follow Repair Manual diagnostics to repair the vehicle.
^ If alternator voltage output is OUTSIDE the specified standard range of 13.2 - 14.8 V, continue to step 2.
2. Remove the alternator end cap as outlined in TIS, 2007 model year Yaris Repair Manual:
^ Power Source/Network - Battery/Charging - "1NZ-FE Charging:
Generator: Removal".
^ Power Source/Network - Battery/Charging - "1NZ-FE Charging:
Generator: Disassembly".
3. Check for signs of rust or corrosion around the voltage regulator terminals.
^ If rust or corrosion is found on the terminals of the voltage regulator, remove and replace the voltage regulator with a new service part as outlined on TIS, 2007 model year Yaris Repair Manual:
^ Power Source/Network - Battery/Charging - "1NZ-FE Charging:
Generator: Disassembly"
^ Power Source/Network - Battery/Charging - "1NZ-FE Charging:
Generator: Installation".
Inspection & Repair Procedure
^ If NO corrosion is found on the terminals of the voltage regulator, remove and replace the alternator as outlined on TIS, 2007 model year Yaris Repair Manual:
^ Power Source/Network - Battery/Charging - "1NZ-FE Charging:
Generator: Disassembly"
^ Power Source/Network - Battery/Charging - "1NZ-FE Charging:
Generator: Installation"
4. Confirm repair by performing the on-vehicle inspection.
