Crankshaft Main Bearing

Crankshaft Main Bearing
Standard main bearing center wall thickness (Reference)
Mark 1 1.993 to 1.996 mm (0.0785 to 0.0786 inch)
Mark 2 1.997 to 1.999 mm (0.0786 to 0.0787 inch)
Mark 3 2.000 to 2.002 mm (0.0787 to 0.0788 inch)
Mark 4 2.003 to 2.005 mm (0.0789 to 0.0789 inch)
Crankshaft bearing cap set bolt
Standard diameter 7.3 to 7.5 mm (0.287 to 0.295 inch)
Minimum diameter 7.2 mm (0.284 inch)

Main Bearing Cap





Examine the front marks and install the bearing caps on the cylinder block.
Install the crankshaft bearing cap bolts.

NOTICE: The main bearing cap bolts are tightened in 2 progressive steps.





Step 1
Install and uniformly tighten the 10 main bearing cap bolts in the sequence shown in the illustration.
Torque 20 Nm (204 kgf-cm, 15 ft. lbs.)





Further tighten the 10 main bearing cap bolts in the sequence shown in the illustration.
Torque 40 Nm (408 kgf-cm, 30 ft. lbs.)





Step 2
Mark the front of the bearing cap bolts with paint.
Further tighten the bearing cap bolts by 90° in the numerical order shown in the previous illustration.
Check that the paint mark is now at a 90° angle to the front.
Check that the crankshaft turns smoothly.
