Rear Axle Hub
REAR AXLE HUBCOMPONENTS:
ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION
1. INSPECT REAR AXLE HUB BEARING
(a) Remove the rear wheel.
(b) Remove rear brake drum sub-assembly.
(c) Inspect the bearing backlash.
(1) Using a dial indicator, check the backlash near the center of the axle hub.
Maximum: 0.05 mm (0.0020 inch)
If the backlash exceeds the maximum, replace the rear axle hub & bearing assembly.
(d) Inspect the axle hub deviation.
(1) Using a dial indicator, check the deviation at the surface of the axle hub outside the hub bolt.
Maximum: 0.07 mm (0.0028 inch)
If the backlash exceeds the maximum, replace the rear axle hub & bearing assembly.
(e) Install the rear brake drum sub-assembly.
(f) Install the rear wheel.
Torque: 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.)
REMOVAL
HINT:
^ Using the same procedures for the RH side and LH side.
^ The procedures listed below are for the LH side.
1. REMOVE REAR WHEEL
2. REMOVE REAR BRAKE DRUM SUB-ASSEMBLY
3. DISCONNECT SKID CONTROL SENSOR WIRE (w/ ABS)
4. REMOVE REAR AXLE HUB & BEARING ASSEMBLY LH
(a) Remove the 4 bolts and hub & bearing assembly LH.
INSTALLATION
1. INSTALL REAR AXLE HUB & BEARING ASSEMBLY LH
(a) Install the hub & bearing assembly LH with the 4 bolts.
Torque: 61 Nm (622 kgf-cm, 45 ft. lbs.)
2. CONNECT SKID CONTROL SENSOR WIRE (w/ ABS)
NOTICE: Do not twist the sensor wire when connecting it.
3. INSPECT REAR AXLE HUB BEARING LOOSENESS
4. INSPECT REAR AXLE HUB RUNOUT
5. INSTALL REAR BRAKE DRUM SUB-ASSEMBLY
6. INSTALL REAR WHEEL
Torque: 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.)
7. CHECK ABS SPEED SENSOR SIGNAL (w/ ABS)
