Underdrive Planetary Gear

DISASSEMBLY





1. MEASURE TURNING TORQUE OF U/D OUTPUT SHAFT
Using SST and a torque wrench, measure the turning torque of the U/D output shaft.

Turning torque at 60 rpm: 0.10 - 4.41 Nm (1 - 45 kgf-cm, 0.9 - 319.0 inch lbs.)

HINT: Use a torque wrench with a fulcrum length of 160 mm (6.3 inch).

2. REMOVE CYLINDRICAL ROLLER BEARING INNER RACE





a. Using SST, loosen the staked part of the nut.

b. Clamp the U/D planetary gear in a soft jaw vise.

NOTICE: Be careful not to damage the differential drive pinion.





c. Using SST, remove the lock nut.

d. Using SST, remove the cylindrical roller bearing inner race.

3. REMOVE U/D PLANETARY GEAR





a. Using SST and a press, remove the differential drive pinion, parking lock gear, counter driven gear with U/D planetary ring gear and tapered roller bearing FR.

b. Secure the under drive planetary gear assembly into a vise, cut off the cover of the tapered roller bearing with a chisel and hammer and remove the cover and roller.





c. Clamp the U/D planetary gear in a soft jaw vise.
d. Using SST, remove the tapered roller bearing from the U/D planetary gear.

4. REMOVE U/D PLANETARY RING GEAR





a. Using snap ring pliers, remove the snap ring.





b. Remove the U/D planetary ring gear from the counter driven gear.

REASSEMBLY
1. INSTALL U/D PLANETARY RING GEAR





a. Install a new snap ring to the outer race of the tapered roller bearing.





b. Using a piston ring compressor, squeeze the snap ring.





c. Using SST and a press, press in the outer race of the tapered roller bearing.

d. Install the U/D planetary ring gear to the counter driven gear.





e. Using snap ring pliers, install the snap ring.
2. INSTALL U/D PLANETARY GEAR





a. Using SST and a press, press in a new tapered roller bearing to the U/D planetary gear.

b. Install the counter driven gear with planetary ring gear to the U/D planetary gear.





c. Using SST and a press, press in a new tapered roller bearing.
SST 09316-00011

NOTICE: Press in the counter driven gear while rotating it.





d. Using a press, install the parking lock gear.

NOTICE: Press in the counter driven gear while rotating It.





e. Using SST and a press, press in the differential drive pinion.

NOTICE:
^ Press in the counter driven gear while rotating It.
^ If the replace any differential drive pinion or U/D planetary gear shaft, replace the differential drive pinion and U/D planetary gear shaft with new one.

f. Using SST and a press, press in the cylindrical roller bearing inner race.

NOTICE: Press in the counter driven gear while rotating it.

g. Clamp the U/D planetary gear in a soft jaw vise.

NOTICE: Be careful not to damage the differential drive pinion.

h. Using SST, install a new lock nut.
Torque: 280 Nm (2,855 kgf-cm, 207 ft. lbs.)

HINT: Use a torque wrench with a fulcrum length of 750 mm (29.53 inch).





3. MEASURE TURNING TORQUE OF U/D INPUT SHAFT
Using SST and a torque wrench, measure the turning torque of the U/D input shaft.

Turning torque at 60 rpm: 0.10 - 4.41 Nm (1 - 45 kgf-cm, 0.9 - 39.0 inch lbs.)

HINT: Use a torque wrench with a fulcrum length of 160 mm (6.30 inch).





4. STAKE LOCK NUT
Using a pin punch and hammer, stake the lock nut.

NOTICE: Make sure that there are no cracks on the nut.
