Water Pump: Service and Repair
REMOVAL
1. DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT
2. REMOVE DRIVE BELT AND ALTERNATOR
3. REMOVE WATER PUMP
a. Using SST, remove the 4 bolts and pump pulley.
SST 09960-10010 (09962-01000, 09963-00600)
b. Disconnect the crankshaft position sensor wire harness clamp.
c. Remove the 4 bolts, 2 nuts,bracket and water pump.
INSPECTION
INSPECT WATER PUMP
a. Visually check the drain hole for coolant leakage.
If leakage is found, replace the water pump.
b. Turn the pulley, and check that the water pump bearing moves smoothly and quietly.
If necessary, replace the water pump.
INSTALLATION
1. INSTALL OIL PAN
a. Remove any old packing (FIPG) material, and be careful not to drop any oil and water on the contact surface of the water pump and cylinder block.
- Using a razor blade and gasket scraper, remove all the old packing (FIPG) material from the gasket surfaces and sealing grooves.
- Thoroughly clean all components to remove all the loose material.
- Using a non-residue solvent, clean both sealing surfaces.
NOTICE: Do not use a solvent which will affect the painted surfaces.
b. Apply seal packing to the water pump as shown in the illustration.
Seal packing: Part No. 08826-00080 or equivalent
Install a nozzle that has been cut to a 2.2 - 2.5 mm (0.087 - 0.098 inch) opening.
c. Install the water pump and bracket with the 4 bolts and 2 nuts.
Torque: 9.0 Nm (92 kgf-cm, 80 inch lbs.)
d. Connect the crankshaft position sensor wire harness clamp.
e. Using SST, install the pump pulley with the 4 bolts.
SST 09960-10010 (09962-01000, 09963-00600)
Torque: 26 Nm (260 kgf-cm, 19 ft. lbs.)
2. INSTALL ALTERNATOR AND DRIVE BELT
3. FILL WITH ENGINE COOLANT
4. START ENGINE AND CHECK FOR LEAKS
5. RECHECK ENGINE COOLANT LEVEL
