Differential Case
DISASSEMBLY
1. REMOVE TAPERED ROLLER BEARING RH
Using SST, remove the tapered roller bearing RH.
SST 09950-40011 (09951-04010, 09952-04010, 09953-04020, 09954-04010, 09955-04060, 09958-04010)
2. REMOVE TAPERED ROLLER BEARING LH
Using SST, remove the tapered roller bearing LH.
SST 09950-40011 (09951-04010, 09952-04010, 09953-04020, 09954-04010, 09955-04060, 09958-04010)
3. DISASSEMBLE DIFFERENTIAL CASE
a. Using a pin punch and a hammer, drive out the straight pin.
b. Remove the pinion shaft, 2 pinions, 2 pinion thrust washers, 2 side gears and 2 side gear thrust washers from the case.
INSPECTION
CHECK TAPERED ROLLER BEARING
Check that burnt spots, deformation or play due to the wear is not identified. If they are identified, replace the tapered roller bearing.
REASSEMBLY
1. ASSEMBLE DIFFERENTIAL CASE
a. Coat the 2 side gear thrust washers and 2 pinion thrust washers with ATF.
b. Install the 2 side gears, 2 pinions and 4 thrust washers to the case.
c. Check the side gear backlash.
Measure the side gear backlash while pushing one pinion gear toward the case.
Standard backlash: 0.05 - 0.20 mm (0.0020 - 0.0079 inch)
Select thrust washers which backlash is surely within the specified range.
Select washers of the same size for both sides.
Thrust washer thickness
If the backlash is not within the specified range, install a thrust washer of a different thickness.
d. Using a pin punch and a hammer, install the straight pin.
e. Stake the differential case.
2. INSTALL 2 TAPERED ROLLER BEARINGS
CAUTION:
- A: The one which has bigger rollers (The number of rollers is 22.)
- B: The one which has smaller rollers (The number of rollers is 24.)
a. Using SST and a press, press in the tapered roller bearing
RH. (Bearing B)
