NAVIGATION, ENERGY MONITOR, CONSUMPTION, & CASSETTE EJECT MALFUNCTION

'01 - '02 Prius
Introduction
Certain Prius vehicles may have the CD player adapter harness improperly installed, causing one or more of the following conditions:
^ Cassette eject button on the center cluster does not function.
^ Energy Monitor flow in the Multi-Information Display does not function.
^ Energy Monitor battery icon shows no state of charge.
^ Temperature reading in the Multi-Information Display does not update or displays erroneous values.
^ Consumption in the Multi-Information Display shows average fuel economy of 99.9 mpg.
^ Navigation does not update the vehicle location.
^ Navigation does not respond to the switch operation.
^ Radio/Cassette does not respond to the switch operation.
^ Radio/Cassette does not show correct status in the Multi-Information Display.
^ Single CD/In-Dash CD Changer does not respond to the switch operation.
^ Single CD/In-Dash CD Changer does not show correct status in the Multi-Information Display.
^ Power steering system warning light does not come on.
^ Hybrid Vehicle Battery warning light does not come on.
^ Hybrid system warning light does not come on.
Applicable Vehicles
^ 2001 - 2002 model year Prius vehicles with accessory CD player.
Warranty Information
Applicable Warranty**:
This repair is covered under the Toyota Comprehensive Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.
** Warranty application is limited to correction of a problem based upon a customer's specific complaint.
Normal Operation of Energy Monitor
Diagnostic Procedure
To determine if the CD player adapter harness is the root cause of any of the conditions listed, verify that the cassette eject button does not function. If the cassette eject button does not function properly, perform the repair procedure below.
NOTE:
The cassette eject button not functioning is the only condition that occurs 100% of the time when the CD player adapter harness is improperly installed.
Repair Procedure
1. Remove the 2 clips on the lower center cluster finish panel.
2. Open the accessory box cover, and carefully pull out the panel.
3. Remove the 4 Phillips screws and remove the CD player.
4. Disconnect the 2 male Y-adapter harness connectors.
NOTE:
One harness connector is connected to the CD player and the other is connected to the dash wire harness.
5. Attach the connector with the tag "Add On Unit" to the CD player. Attach the connector with the tag "Vehicle Harness" to the dash harness.
6. Reinstall the CD player and center cluster finish panel.
7. Verify that the cassette eject button, Energy Monitor and Consumption display operate normally.
