Introduction
To avoid damage to the power steering (PS) main shaft lower dust seal when installing the power steering gear assembly, it is important to follow these supplemental instructions.

Applicable Vehicles:
^ 2001 model year Prius vehicles.

Repair Procedure





1. To prevent damage to the main shaft lower dust seal inner lip seal, wrap vinyl tape on the splined portion of the control valve shaft.





2. Push the main shaft lower dust seal towards the cab compartment side.

3. After inserting the valve shaft of the PS gear assembly through the main shaft lower dust seal; check for damage of the dust seal. Carefully push the dust seal towards the engine compartment side and around the valve shaft.

4. Remove the vinyl tape from the splined portion of the control valve shaft.
