Introduction
To improve serviceability on the 2001 model year Prius, the headlight protector retainers have been established as separate service parts. If a headlight retainer is damaged, the headlight can be reused by installing the appropriate retainer. Please use the procedures described in this bulletin to repair the affected headlight retainer.

Repair Procedure

HEADLIGHT REMOVAL
Please refer to the component layout on the Prius Repair Manual, Vol. 2 (Pub. No. RM778U2), page BO-4 for steps 1 and 2.

1. Remove the engine under cover.

2. Remove the front bumper cover.

3. Remove the headlight assembly.





A. Remove the nut and 2 bolts.

B. Disconnect the connectors, then remove the headlight assembly.

RETAINER INSTALLATION





1. If the sections highlighted in the illustration are damaged, cut them off flush with the housing base.





2. Install the replacement retainers with the 4 screws to each boss in the housing base.

HEADLIGHT INSTALLATION
Installation is in reverse order of removal.
