Valve Body: Service and Repair

ON-VEHICLE REPAIR





1. REMOVE DRAIN PLUG AND DRAIN ATF
2. REMOVE OIL PAN AND GASKET

NOTICE: Some fluid will remain in the oil pan. Remove the oil pan bolts, and carefully remove the oil pan assembly. Discard the gasket.

3. EXAMINE PARTICLES IN PAN
Remove the magnets and use them to collect any steel chips. Look at the chips and on the magnet carefully to anticipate what type of wear you will find in the transaxle.
Steel (magnetic) bearing, gear and plate wear
Brass (non-magnetic) bushing wear





4. REMOVE OIL STRAINER
Remove the 3 bolts and oil strainer.

NOTICE: Be careful as some oil will come out of the strainer.





5. REMOVE 4 OIL PIPES
a. Remove the 2 bolts and the pipe bracket.
b. Pry up the both pipe ends with a large screwdriver and re move the 4 pipes.

NOTICE: Be careful not to bend or damage the pipes.





6. REMOVE MANUAL DETENT SPRING
7. REMOVE MANUAL VALVE AND MANUAL VALVE BODY
8. REMOVE VALVE BODY





a. Remove the 14 bolts.





b. Disconnect the throttle cable.
c. Remove the valve body.





9. REMOVE 2ND BRAKE APPLY GASKET AND GOVERNOR OIL STRAINER
10. INSTALL GOVERNOR OIL STRAINER AND 2ND BRAKE APPLY GASKET

HINT: Replace the used gasket with a new one.





11. INSTALL VALVE BODY
a. Connect the throttle cable.

NOTICE: Be careful not to entangle the kick-down switch and solenoid wire.

b. Install the valve body and 14 bolts.
Bolt length:
A: 20 mm (0.79 inch)
B: 25 mm (0.98 inch)
C: 36 mm (1.47 inch)
D: 50 mm (1.97 inch)
Torque: 10 Nm (100 kgf-cm, 7 ft. lbs.)
12. INSTALL MANUAL VALVE BODY AND MANUAL VALVE
Torque: 10 Nm (100 kgf-cm, 7 ft. lbs.)
13. INSTALL MANUAL DETENT SPRING
Torque: 10 Nm (100 kgf-cm, 7 ft. lbs.)

HINT: Check that the manual valve lever is in connect with of the roller at the tip of the detent spring.

14. INSTALL 4 OIL PIPES
a. Install the 4 pipes.

NOTICE: Be careful not to bend or damage the pipes.

b. Install the apply pipe bracket and 2 bolts.
Torque: 10 Nm (100 kgf-cm, 7 ft. lbs.)
15. INSTALL OIL STRAINER
Install the oil strainer and 3 bolts.
Torque: 10 Nm (100 kgf-cm, 7 ft. lbs.)





16. INSTALL 2 MAGNETS IN OIL PAN
17. INSTALL OIL PAN WITH NEW GASKET
Torque: 4.9 Nm (50 kgf-cm, 43 inch lbs.)
18. INSTALL DRAIN PLUG
Torque: 49 Nm (500 kgf-cm, 36 ft. lbs.)
19. FILL ATF AND CHECK FLUID LEVEL. Refer to Automatic Transmission/Transaxle; Testing and Inspection; Procedures Troubleshooting.
