Removal and Installation
REMOVAL
1. REMOVE AIR CLEANER
2. DISCONNECT THROTTLE CABLE
3. REMOVE BATTERY
4. REMOVE GROUND CABLE
Torque: 18 Nm (185 kgf-cm, 13 ft. lbs.)
5. REMOVE WIRE HARNESS CLAMP BRACKET
Torque: 13 Nm (130 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.)
6. REMOVE 2 UPPER SIDE TRANSAXLE MOUNTING BOLTS FROM TRANSAXLE SIDE
Torque: 64 Nm (650 kgf-cm, 47 ft. lbs.)
7. REMOVE UPPER SIDE STARTER MOUNTING BOLT
Torque: 39 Nm (400 kgf-cm, 29 ft. lbs.)
8. DISCONNECT VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR CONNECTOR
9. REMOVE LH AND RH ENGINE UNDER COVERS
10. REMOVE DRAIN PLUG AND DRAIN ATF
Torque: 17 Nm (175 kgf-cm, 13 ft. lbs.)
11. REMOVE LH AND RH DRIVE SHAFTS
12. DISCONNECT SOLENOID CONNECTOR AND PARK/ NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH CONNECTOR
a. Disconnect the solenoid connector and the park/neutral position switch connector.
b. Remove the wire harness clamps.
13. REMOVE SHIFT CONTROL CABLE
a. Remove the nut from the control shift lever.
Torque: 12 Nm (120 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.)
b. Remove the clip and disconnect the control cable.
14. REMOVE SUSPENSION MEMBER
a. Remove the 2 nuts and the brace.
Torque: 69 Nm (700 kgf-cm, 51 ft. lbs.)
b. Remove the 14 bolts and 3 nuts.
Torque:
A bolt: 60 Nm (611 kgf-cm, 44 ft. lbs.)
B bolt: 64 Nm (650 kgf-cm, 47 ft. lbs.)
C bolt: 225 Nm (2,305 kgf-cm, 167 ft. lbs.)
D bolt: 147 Nm (1,500 kgf-cm, 109 ft. lbs.)
E bolt: 175 Nm (1,784 kgf-cm, 129 ft. lbs.)
Nut: 57 Nm (580 kgf-cm, 42 ft. lbs.)
HINT: Replace the used E bolts with the new ones.
c. Remove the suspension member.
15. REMOVE STARTER
a. Remove the nut and cable, and disconnect the connector.
b. Remove the bolt and the starter.
Torque: 39 Nm (400 kgf-cm, 29 ft. lbs.)
16. INSTALL ENGINE SUPPORT FIXTURE
17. REMOVE UPPER SIDE ENGINE LEFT MOUNTING BOLT
Torque: 87 Nm (890 kgf-cm, 64 ft. lbs.)
18. REMOVE OIL COOLER HOSE
Loosen the 2 clips and disconnect the 2 oil cooler hoses.
19. REMOVE HEAT INSULATOR
Remove the 2 bolts and a nut.
Torque: 17 Nm (170 kgf-cm, 13 ft. lbs.)
20. JACK UP TRANSAXLE
21. REMOVE TRANSAXLE
a. Remove the hole plug.
b. Turn the crankshaft to gain access and remove the 6 bolts holding the crankshaft pulley set bolt with a wrench.
Torque: 25 Nm (250 kgf-cm, 18 ft. lbs.)
HINT: At the time of installation, please refer to the following item. First install green colored bolt and then 5 other bolts.
c. Remove the 4 bolts.
Torque:
A bolt: 46 Nm (470 kgf-cm, 34 ft. lbs.)
B bolt: 23 Nm (230 kgf-cm, 17 ft. lbs.)
d. Lower the engine to move it to the left side and remove the transaxle from the engine.
INSTALLATION
1. CHECK TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH INSTALLATION
Using calipers and a straight edge, measure the distance between the installed surface and the front surface of the transaxle housing.
Correct distance: More than 13.4 mm (0.528 inch)
2. TRANSAXLE INSTALLATION
Installation is in the reverse order of removal. Refer to Shift Lever, A/T; Service and Repair.
HINT:
^ After installation, adjust the throttle cable, the shift cable and the park/neutral position switch. Refer to Automatic Transmission/Transaxle; Testing and Inspection; Procedures Troubleshooting.
^ Fill ATF and check fluid level.
^ Perform the test drive of the vehicle.
