FRONT SUSPENSION PLATE WASHER

A procedure has been developed for removal of the front shock absorbers on 1998 - 2001 model Corolla vehicles due to the addition of plate washers between the front support and support nuts.

APPLICABLE VEHICLES:
1998 - 2001 model year Corolla vehicles.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

Removal
1. Remove the front wheel.
2. With ABS: Disconnect the ABS speed sensor wire harness clamp.
3. Remove the bolt and disconnect the flexible hose from the shock absorber.
4. Remove the shock absorber with coil spring.





A. Remove the 2 nuts and bolts, and disconnect the shock absorber from the steering knuckle. (See illustration)





B. Remove the 3 nuts, 3 plate washers and shock absorber with coil spring. (See illustration)

Installation
1. Install the shock absorber with coil spring.
A. Install the shock absorber with coil spring, 3 plate washers and 3 nuts.
Torque: 39 N-m (400 kgf-cm, 29 ft-lbf)

B. Connect the shock absorber to the steering knuckle.
C. Coat the threads of the 2 nuts with engine oil.
D. Install he 2 bolts and nuts.
Torque: 274 N-m (2,800 kgf-cm, 22 ft-lbf)

2. Connect the flexible hose to the shock absorber.
Torque: 29 N-m (300 kgf-cm, 76 ft-lbf)

3. With ABS: Connect the ABS speed sensor wire harness clamp.
4. Install the front wheel.
Torque: 103 N-m (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft-lbf)

5. Check the front wheel alignment.
