Inspection and Replacement
NOTE: When using a vise, do not overtighten it.Non-Tilt Steering Column / 1 Of 2:
Non-Tilt Steering Column / 2 Of 2:
1. Inspect the steering lock operation and check that the steering lock mechanism operates properly.
2. If necessary, replace the key cylinder by doing the following.
a. Place the ignition key at the ACC position.
b. Push down the stop pin with a thin rod, and pull out the key cylinder.
c. Install a new key cylinder.
NOTE: Make sure the ignition key is at the ACC position.
3. Inspect the ignition switch.
4. If necessary, replace the ignition switch after doing these steps.
a. Remove the two screws.
b. Install a new switch with the two screws.
5. Inspect the key unlock warning switch.
6. If necessary, replace the key unlock warning switch after doing the following.
a. Remove the two screws.
b. Install a new switch with the two screws.
7. Inspect the bearing by doing these steps.
a. Check the bearing rotation condition and check for abnormal noise, if the bearing is worn or damaged, replace the column tube.
b. Coat the inside of the bearing with molybdenum disulfide lithium base grease.
8. If necessary, replace the bushing by doing these procedures.
a. Using a screwdriver, depress the projections on the bushing to release the bushing, then remove the bushing from the column tube.
b. Coat the inside of new bushing with molybdenum disulfide lithium base grease.
c. Align the projections on the bushing with the holes in the column tube. Install the bushing until the projections are firmly engaged in the holes.
